customs…

Today I rang Australian Customs and Dept of Ag to check out any known restrictions from America and Canada.  The lady was very helpful and said so long as the souvenirs look okay, prepared wood, processed leather, dyed feathers, washed fossils etc then we would be free to bring it in.  All items have to be declared for checking on our return to Australia.  I can even post souvenirs home okay so long as I fill out the declaration forms on the parcel.  Yippeee… I love to shop!  All systems are go…

housesitters…

We met the new housesitters today.  They came over for morning tea and to have a look around.  Most good housesitters have a neat little folder with things like a Police Clearance and References from previous gigs.  We were happy and said ‘yes you are booked’.  We showed them around: the chooks, guinea pigs, rabbit, poodles, sheep, vege garden, shed, caravan, house, fire place, outdoor areas and spa.  They are going to have fun here!  We know our place is pretty awesome.  We live here and feel like it is a holiday.

blogging…

My sons teacher suggested we start a blog so his class can follow us while we travel.  My initial though was O M G I already spend so much time on technology of some description do I really want another technology absorbing task?  I downloaded a few travel blog apps onto the ipad.  None were easy to navigate.  I was looking for one the kids could use easily to post a photo and share a bit of their day.  Then I found this one.  It seemed easy enough for us virgin bloggers.  What is blogging about anyway?  Bit of travel voyerism?  Does it have spellcheck because I am a terrible speller and will need that.  (I cant find it!).  So here we are… blogging… I also am left to ponder… who reads this stuff?  can people find it?  can they post to say hi?  what do all the menu options mean?…

insurance…

Comprehensive travel insurance – check!  Something you just have to have.  Today I researched the most commonly things claimed.  They were stolen, damaged and lost goods.  Cancelled or delayed travel.  So our policy covers it all.  We needed to get it now that we have stared paying for parts of the holiday.  That way we are covered incase something goes pee’tong and we have to cancel.  But really, poo that, we are going!  Its for Justincase…

planning…

We have been busy reading, researching and planning for ages.  Everything is starting to come together, finally.  We have paid the deposit for our Alaska cruise and waiting on the final flights to view before paying that deposit too.  It is only five months away now! eekkkk so exciting.

Met with both the kids teachers to plan and get them organised so that they can take term 3 off.  I have set them the goal of both being at the top of their class before we go.  Then we know there will be no pressure missing all that school time.  Woohoo… kids dream hey!!
