gratitude…

Its only about five weeks or so now until we leave.  I paid the balance on our cruise yesterday.  Soon it will be time for me to get out the backpacks and all the stuff we have brought over the last six months to check, sort and pack.

Laying in my super comfy bed last night reading a book I got to thinking about leaving our lovely home.  We live on ten acres in the bush and we love it from corner to corner. Through working hard and smart by design, we live a very blessed and fortunate life.

We have found on previous journeys after about 3-4 months away we know we are ready to return to home sweet home.  Travelling really reinvigorates our home life, which at times I too have been guilty of complaining about.  Travelling every couple of years keeps my neurotic tendencies in check.  Travelling refreshes our love of normal life like snuggling on our lounge watching telly or hot toast popping up in the morning.

Travelling really makes me appreciate all the little beautiful things.  For much of my younger life I was unable to really enjoy the moment.  I felt like something was missing, or that I didnt really get it… now at 38, finally Im beginning to get it.  What I was missing was living in the moment.  Loving the here and now.  What makes all this possible is gratitude.  That one magic ingredient opens the door to fully embracing life.  It also erases that feeling of ‘waiting’ that lingers in so many of our lives.  So many of us waiting for this and that.  When this happens then I will be happy.  Just this one more thing… and for many, it never comes.  Not because the actual thing never comes, just because we choose to live in a blindsided state of waiting.  What if we all replaced this feeling of ‘waiting’ with a feeling of deep gratitude for all layers of life.

In the past week I have been very mindful of this.  Knowing that we will leave our home soon for another big adventure.  So I have been deliberately present and gracious.  Some of the little things that have lit up my life in the past week have been playing with my puppy, my cup of tea in the morning, making yummy lunches for the kids, weeding our veggie garden, a coffee with a friend, my mums roast dinner, reading a book in the sun with my husband and mopping the floor I will not see again for 100 days once we leave on the big jet plane.

It is said that the most successful and happy people in the world are those who live life with a can do spirit and whose best friend is gratefulness.  I know now that when it rains, I am able to experience a rainbow.  There are weeds in my garden, for which I am grateful.

fitness…

My low level of fitness has been brewing in the back of my mind for some months now… With only 7 weeks left until we depart for LA I am feeling the pressure to do something about it.  I keep thinking about what I have to carry in my cool new red backpack.  Plus I dont want to be the only one in my family sitting on the side of the road having a cry cos I am puffed out!  And despite the fact my kids love the entertainment factor of my ‘wobbly bottom’ I had better do something about it.  So I signed up for the 12wbt online fitness program.  I picked this one as I will need to be following a program to keep me motivated, on track and disciplined.  I heard about it from a couple of my friends who have transformed their bodies.  This step by step program tells me what to eat and when.  Same for exercise, do this and do that now girl.  I say that I am allergic to exercise so its great for me to be following someone else.  I went to the supermarket this morning with my 12wbt food shopping list then came home and did my first home workout.  I truly felt like an uncoordinated goose and the likes of me should not be seen exercising in public.  The result?  My legs are sore and I feel great!  Yippeee.  I am super motivated and excited.  7 weeks to get fit and fit back into my thermals.  Woohoo…

photography…

Today at the newsagent I found a magazine called ‘IPhone Photography’. Gee whizz there is a book for everything! So home I came determined to make better use of my IPhone camera, as I use this now for all my everyday photos. Plus I want to be sure it is capable of taking our holiday snaps. Well I am impressed. I learnt a few useful new things in the first few pages. If I had actually read my phone manual I may have already known! Nevertheless interesting new features to enhance my photo taking. Plus an invitation to learn try out some new photo editing phone apps. They were cool too! Here is a lovely photo if Gracie I practiced on. IPhones are really so cleaver. I am sure now I can take and reproduce quality photos on our big trip coming up soon all using my dear little IPhone.
