The day started slow said person who was still recovering from last night. We woke with the ship docked in the Alaska fishing town of Ketchikan. There are three big ships all in a row with tourists all over the place exploring like ants. We are in a part of the world where the weather is unpredictable. They say it can go from sun to overcast and raining in a short space of time, its ‘typically Alaskan’. Prepare for rain ‘layer up and take your rain coat’ they say in our daily Cruise Compass newsletter.
The houses are lovely to look at. Cute little abodes on the side of the lush mountain. It looks a big wild and wooly from the rain and low clouds.
We ventured off the ship and walked along the dock and towns Main Street. It is a fishing village and we could see salmon in the water. Sea birds were busy feeding in the water as one fishing boat was emptying its slurry tanks.
There are three big ships lined up one after the other. Tourists all over the place buying souvenirs. Lots of things to choose from including carved walrus bone, moose antler, smoked salmon, gems stones and ulu knives.
We watched the evening show in the theatre. It was the best one yet with singing, dancing and orchestra. Streamers flew down into the crowd at the end of the show. It was then off for a lovely three course a la carte meal and a well earned sleep.
